The MMRA shows religiously inspired art, which invites you to pause for a moment and seek meaning in deeply human aspects of existence. As the museum is located in the gallery of the dome, you also get a view on its unique art deco architecture. The collection is eclectic and at the same time diverse, it includes works by well-known artists from the modern and contemporary period, from Belgium, from various European countries, from Africa and from North and South-America.
EXPO The Museum of Modern Religious Art, located in the stately Basilica of Koekelberg, invites you to the exhibition. Curator Denys Shantar created scenes inspired by the Stations of the Cross, drawing on the culture and iconography of his childhood in Ukraine and on his complex relationship with religion. With works from the rich museum collection, for example by Constant Permeke, Marthe Donas and Albert Servaes, and works by contemporary artists, such as Johan Creten, Klaus Verscheure, Denys Shantar, Nikita Kadan, S. Bratkov and Elena Subach.
