EXPO The house Maurice Carême : in the intimacy of the poetry

GUIDED TOUR Children’s poems (1933-2023)

If you have questions about building accessibility and/or activities, please contact the museum directly.

EXPO The poet Maurice Carême (1933-1978), best known for his poems inspired by childhood, lived in the small white house, now the museum, where time stood still. Here, you are plunged into the intimacy of his writing. Discover the world that inspired the poet and the long process from first draft to published book. You can also see works by painters who were his friends, including Paul Delvaux, Jules Lismonde, Henri-Victor Wolvens and Felix de Boeck.

GUIDED TOUR Maurice Carême first discovered poetry written by children through a teaching experiment in his class in Anderlecht. He published all his pupils’ texts in two books. Throughout his life, the teacher/poet continued to encourage children’s poetic creativity. As part of the Erasmus + project “Europe in Poetry”, the Maurice Carême Foundation continued this educational and poetic experiment in classes in Brussels, Paris and Timisoara. Come and discover the poems written by children 90 years apart, the subjects they dream about and the issues that concern them.  The poems will be read by Karin Rochat.
