KIDS – Writing with feather and ink – How did people write books before computers, printers and even before the invention of pens? With plume and ink! Come and try it yourself and discover some exceptional manuscripts written this way more than 600 years ago! (This workshop is only in Dutch and French)
BEHIND THE SCENES – Introduction to calligraphy – Forget screens and keyboards to immerse yourself for a few moments in the delicate art of calligraphy. Equipped with nibs and ink, you will reproduce the gestures of medieval copyists, guided by the calligraphy artist Véronique Denoël. This ink artistry makes time stand still.
Six centuries ago, Brussels belonged to the rich and powerful Dukes of Burgundy. Skilled politicians and cultured patrons, they established a stirring treasure, a unique and fascinating collection of manuscripts: the Library of the Dukes of Burgundy.
These masterpieces, which have survived the ravages of time and of history, have been looked after for you by KBR. It is now opening its vaults to share the highlights of this fantastic collection via its new museum: a unique place that offers you the opportunity to share in Europe’s medieval cultural past, and admire beautiful illuminated manuscripts. The sixteenth-century Chapel of Nassau and the various rooms that surround it will form the backdrop to the museum.
