BEHIND THE SCENES Screening – SURA  صورة Unlocking the Photographic Archives of the Pioneering Years of Egyptology

EXTRA-MUROS “The Pavilion of Human Transformation” – The BARRA Movement (in the Horta Pavilion)

EXTRA-MUROS Cinquantenaire – Fast forward & rewind! (War Heritage Institute > Autoworld > Art and History Museum)

Immerse yourself in the history of two centuries of fascinating archaeological discoveries in the land of the Pharaohs through the Egyptian collection of the Art and History Museum. Nearly 200 objects from the collections are presented among which some for the very first time! The objects enter into dialogue with the works of Sara Sallam, an artist who explores the contemporary Egyptian cultural identity and questions the history and meaning of Egyptology.

GUIDES Passionate guides await you in the exhibition Expedition Egypt to discuss the exhibits and answer all your questions.

→ Ongoing

BEHIND THE SCENES The photographs presented in this screening were selected from the 14,000 photographic glass negatives made by Belgian Egyptologist Jean Capart and his collaborators during their expeditions. With a keen sense of photography, they documented the country of the Nile in all its facets. You will discover, among other things, the official opening of Tutankhamun’s burial chamber in 1923, but also the spectacular landscapes, ancient monuments and daily life of Egypt in a bygone era.

→ 18:00 (FR) / 19:00 (NL) / 20:00 (EN) – Limited places, come 15 min in advance

EXTRA-MUROS Together with the visitors, the artists of BARRA Movement shine a light upon the passions and the stories and rumours behind the bas relief of the human passions in the Horta’s Pavillon. With words, stories, stones and song they make the marble bas relief resonate in unexpected ways.

Please note that this activity has been specially designed for visitors as an artistic performance within the framework of the Nocturnes. This is not a classic guided tour of the pavilion.

This is a project of Cinquantenaire 2030 in collaboration with the Museum of Art & History and with the support of the National Lottery.

→ Due to security reasons, only 45 persons can enter the pavilion at the same time. You can visit the pavilion automonously between 17:00 and 21:45, at the exception of the moments the artistic performances take place.

→ Artistic and participative performances by BARRA Movement at 18:00, 19:00 & 20:00. Duration: 20 min. Max. 45 people can participate to the performance. First come, first served.

The Horta Pavilion is located in the Parc du Cinquantenaire on the Avenue de la Joyeuse Entrée side. This activity is free of charge.

EXTRA-MUROS This guided tour takes you from the War Heritage Museum, to Autoworld, to the Art & History Museum, where you will be presented with the exhibition Expedition Egypt. Expect cultural speed dating, fast walking and all the information you need to discover these museums and their collections at your leisure!

→ 17:30 (NL) / 17:30 (FR – sold out) / 19:30 (NL) / 19:30 (FR – sold out) – Limited places, reservations at the reception of the Royal Army Museum (duration 2 hours). At the end of the visit, participants will have free access to one of the three museums.
